Authors FAQs

Have a question about submitting an abstract, being a part of the technical program, or presenting a short course topic? We can help! Below we have answered some of the most Frequently Asked Questions about being an author at RETC 2023.


How do I submit an abstract for RETC 2023?

You can submit your abstract by visiting Abstract Submission. To view sample topics and more  information about becoming an RETC 2023 author, please visit the  Authors Overview.

Do I need to be a member of SME or UCA to submit an abstract?

You do not need to be a member of SME or UCA to submit an abstract.

When is the deadline to submit abstracts for RETC 2023?

Abstracts for consideration are due June 30, 2022.

Can I submit an abstract if it has already been published or presented elsewhere?

You may submit an abstract for presentation as long as you reference the original conference or publication in your presentation. You may not submit a manuscript if you have signed a copyright with another organization.

What is the word limit for an abstract?

We ask that you keep your abstract to 100 words.

What is the page limit for a manuscript?

Manuscripts should not exceed 10 pages.

Is a Copyright release required for abstract or manuscript submission/acceptance?

You must complete a copyright release submission for RETC 2023 or your name will be pulled from the manuscript. The release is part of final manuscript submission and is done electronically.

How do I withdraw an abstract from the program?

All requests to withdraw must be submitted by email to Tara Davis, davis@smenet.org or Raven Refuerzo, refuerzo@smenet.org. It is also helpful to inform your session chair of your withdraw.

Does SME subsidize travel expenses or offer travel stipends for presenters?

SME does not cover travel expenses or registration costs for presenters.

When will abstracts be available to the general public?

Abstracts will be available for review online in March 2023.

Do presenters have to register for the conference?

Yes, all presenters are expected to register and pay for the conference. SME does offer a discounted speaker rate.

How will I know that my abstract has been successfully submitted?

An email will be sent to the email address listed for the primary author. If someone else submitted the abstract for you and used their email address they will receive the confirmation.

May I submit multiple manuscripts/abstracts at the same time?

No, each submission must be done separately.
